At Avala Home, we are dedicated to providing top-quality container houses that combine innovative design, functionality, and sustainability. As a company specialized in modular homes made from shipping containers, we select only the highest-quality materials that ensure longevity, safety, and a comfortable stay for our clients. We place special emphasis on the ecological aspect – most of the materials we use have an “eco label” in accordance with European Union standards, meaning they are chosen with a focus on minimal environmental impact, energy efficiency, and sustainability. We use materials that support a natural and healthy home environment, allowing users to enjoy a natural comfort setting without compromising on modern conveniences.
Basic Construction: Strength and Durability
Our container houses start with a base of new shipping containers made from COR-TEN steel – a special steel alloy known for its exceptional resistance to corrosion, weather conditions, and mechanical damage. This material, used in the maritime industry, ensures a house lifespan of up to 70 years with minimal maintenance. COR-TEN steel is “self-healing” – it forms a protective patina layer that prevents further corrosion, making it ideal for ecologically sustainable structures. This strength also provides high seismic resistance, as the containers retain their shape even in the event of earthquakes, making our homes safe for families in all conditions.
We also use polyurethane paint that provides additional protection to the structure itself, enhancing resistance to corrosion, UV radiation, and extreme weather conditions, while simultaneously ensuring long-lasting color without fading or peeling over the years. This paint, often in combination with epoxy coatings, forms a strong, flexible layer that protects COR-TEN steel from additional damage in demanding environments like coastal areas, where it can withstand decades without the need for repainting.
Insulation: Energy efficiency and comfort
For insulation, we use closed-cell polyurethane insulation, which represents a top-tier material for thermal and sound protection. This insulation has high performance, preventing heat loss in winter and overheating in summer, which contributes to significant energy savings – up to 50% lower costs for heating and cooling compared to traditional houses. Polyurethane foam is ecologically certified, contains no harmful chemicals, and contributes to better indoor air quality. It creates a natural, quiet environment where users can feel surrounded by nature, without external disturbances.
Windows and Doors: Light and Ventilation
Windows in our modules are equipped with triple-glazed glass with seven-chamber PVC profiles from renowned manufacturers like Rehau and Schüco. These profiles ensure excellent thermal insulation (U-value below 1.0 W/m²K), resistance to UV radiation, and longevity without color or shape changes. Triple-glazed glass with argon between the layers minimizes condensation and improves natural light, creating a pleasant, bright space that feels connected to nature.
Optionally, users can choose aluminum joinery, which offers additional advantages such as exceptional strength and durability, resistance to corrosion and weather conditions, and minimal maintenance. Aluminum profiles are particularly suitable for modular houses due to their lightness and possibility for thinner frames, which allows for larger glass surfaces and better intake of natural light, without compromising structural stability. With a thermal break, they achieve excellent thermal insulation similar to PVC, with a U-value that can be below 1.5 W/m²K, reducing energy loss and improving the home’s energy efficiency. This option is ideal for those seeking a modern, aesthetically appealing design.
Finishing Materials: Quality, Safety, and Ecology
For finishing works in our container houses, we use highquality gypsum boards reinforced with special fibers, such as glass fibers, which make them fire-resistant and moisture-resistant. These boards, like those with glass fibers in the core, have enhanced strength and fire resistance, as they contain additives that improve fireproofing (Type X standard), allowing the boards to withstand high temperatures and prevent flame spread in case of fire. Moisture resistance is achieved through impregnation with silicone oil or emulsions, making them ideal for humid spaces like bathrooms or kitchens, preventing mold growth and maintaining structural integrity even in high-humidity conditions. These materials are ecologically certified, with low emissions of harmful substances, and contribute to better indoor air quality, creating a healthy and safe environment for users.
Additionally, finishing paints are made from ecological acrylic paints that are VOC-free (harmful organic compounds), zero-emission, and without toxic solvents, maintaining healthy air in the rooms. These paints, such as water-based acrylic formulations on a plant-based or zero-VOC level, actively improve indoor air quality by absorbing harmful chemicals and minimizing odors, making them ideal for families with children or people sensitive to allergens.
Ecological Note and Sustainability
At Avala Home, ecology is not just a phrase – it is integrated into every step. Our modules are modular and portable, meaning they can be easily relocated without destroying the soil or environment. Production in our factory in Belgrade minimizes waste on the construction site, and the houses come “turnkey” – fully equipped, with assembly that takes only a few hours. This reduces the carbon footprint compared to traditional construction. Energy efficiency, through insulation and smart systems, allows our homes to be A-class according to energy standards, supporting a green lifestyle. Users can integrate solar panels or other renewable energy sources, making the home even more sustainable.
